EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree required, preferably with a major in Business Finance or Accounting. Graduate degree in Finance, Accounting, or Real Estate a plus. Minimum four years solid Commercial Real Estate / Multifamily Mortgage Underwriting experience required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Strong comprehension of financial statements. Solid understanding of financial principles and various methods for property valuations (i.e. Discounted Cash Flows, Direct Capitalizations, GRM's, Sales Comparisons). Strong familiarity with more complex real estate structures such as leaseholds, cond-ops, wraps, and larger commercial credits. Excellent analytical and assessment skills. PC literate with working knowledge of MS Office Word, Excel, Powerpoint and database management skills. Strong attention to detail. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to work well individually and within a team environment. Strong ability to multi-task and manage a high volume workload accurately and effectively.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for underwriting, analyzing and evaluating of the most complex multi-family and commercial real estate loan transactions. Reviews credit reports, property appraisals, income tax returns and other financial information to conduct proper due diligence on loan applicants. Responds to regulatory and internal audit inquiries to ensure proper compliance. Regular contact with internal departments and outside brokers and attorneys required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Reviews property operating statements and prepares property valuations and cash flow analyses for various types of income producing properties utilizing bank models. Reviews publicly available information for comparison to historical property expenses (i.e. Real Estate Tax Assessments, water and sewer bills, etc.) and current property details/condition. Reviews appraisals for conformity with initial loan sizing, underwriting and consistency. Prepares and structures written loan committee presentations to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures. Analyzes the creditworthiness of potential borrowers using credit reports, financial statements, income tax returns, organizational documents, payment histories for existing loans, etc. Serves as liaison between loan officer and mortgage broker / borrower. Prepares daft loan commitments and loan commitment modifications for review by a Mortgage Lending Officer.
