Job Description:
SUMMARY OF POSITION:As a member of the psychiatric provider
team, the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is responsible for
treating patients by evaluating medical and psychosocial
conditions; assisting in the development and implementation of
treatment plans, and monitoring and evaluating treatment results.
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is also responsible for
diagnosing and prescribing medication, and monitoring medication
side effects.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Psychiatric evaluation and diagnosis, crisis intervention
determination.
- Participates in treatment planning by providing medication
management interventions and/or concrete services such as crisis
services and recommendations for referrals to outside
agencies/providers.
- Prescribes medications, including Long Acting Injectable
Anti-Psychotics and MAT as indicated.
- Conducts medical reviews.
- Available for consultations with staff. Confers and consults
with members of the treatment team including the clinician,
clinical supervisor, and other professional and technical personnel
in implementing a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.
- Participates in case conferences.
- Participates in reviewing and signing the psychosocial intakes,
treatment plans, discharge summaries, no case made form, and other
pertinent chart documentation on CareLogic.
- Initiates and/or participates in special studies and research
projects.
- Maintains appropriate case records and statistical reports and
prepares other reports as
- Participates in clinic initiatives to utilize evidence-based
practices to assess and treat disorders and symptoms such as
Tobacco Dependence, Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, and Suicidal
Ideations.
- Reports to the State Central Registry of Child Abuse & Neglect
all cases of suspected child abuse or neglect.
- Reports to the "Justice Center for the Protection of People
with Special Needs" all reportable incidents. Submits Incident
Reports to the Clinical Director for all internal and external
incidents.
- Maintains consistent communication with the treatment team,
leadership team and other staff via use of technology (Bleuler
email, CareLogic email & alerts, voicemails).
- Completes documentation such as SSI, housing, transportation,
etc., when necessary, to support clients' benefits.
- Provision of care in an interpersonally and culturally
sensitive manner.
- Attends staff meetings, staff trainings and workshops, as
needed.
- Other duties as assigned.REQUIREMENTS:
- Master's Degree in a Nurse Practitioner Program and National
Board Certification in specialty area required.
- Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in
Psychiatry in New York State, and current license to practice as a
Registered Professional Nurse in New York State, required.
- Has a collaborative practice agreement with designated
protocols filed with NYS Department of Education OR collaborative
relationship attestation as per the Nurse Practitioner
Modernization Act 2015.
- Current BLS certification, required.
- Certifications to administer Medication Assisted Treatment
(MAT)
- Experience working with mental illness in children,
adolescents, and the adult population, five (5) years of clinical
experience preferred.
- Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology,
member - American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry,
preferred.
- Valid New York State Board Certified Physician's License,
preferred. Eligibility for full and unconditional participation in
the Medicaid and Medicare programs required.
- Electronic Health Record experience, preferred
- Comfortable providing both telehealth and in-person
psychiatric.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Email,
Internet
- Flexibility to work evening and weekend hoursSKILLS:
- Knowledge of the Office of Mental Health Part 599 regulations,
and directives for licensed Article 31 clinics.
- Knowledge of and adherence to Bleuler Psychotherapy Center
guidelines, policies and procedures.
- Able to provide psychiatry services to clients in need of
mental health services.
- Responsible, organized, and efficient. Able to work
independently to meet deadlines and complete tasks.
- Able to perform in a team approach and accomplish multiple
assignments simultaneously.
- Communicates effectively in writing and verbally, skilled in
active listening.
- Community-minded, patient, creative, flexible, compassionate,
and culturally sensitive to persons who are diagnosed with severe
and persistent mental illness.
- Able to deal tactfully and diplomatically with other Bleuler
Psychotherapy Center employees, Federal, State, and City officials,
professional and technical groups, patients, and the general
public.ACCOUNTABILITY:
- Accountable to Directors and Compliance Officer on matters of
documentation, adherence to Bleuler policies and procedures,
patient complaints and patient care coordination.
