Assistant Director of Pharmacy, Pharmacy Manager, Registered Pharmacist

Position Summary

The Pharmacy Intern performs pharmacy functions under the direct supervision of a Registered Pharmacist. Duties include but are not limited to: Pharmacist support including answering phones and processing medication demands, filling patient specific medication, Cleanroom/ IV support including compliance with USP Chapter 797 and 800 procedures, filling and maintaining the Pyxis MedStations, filling floor stock orders, filling and replacement of emergency kits, medication packaging, inventory management, performing various computer functions relating to billing, printing labels and reports and maintaining regulatory standards. Assist pharmacy personal in any quality performance improvement projects and patient specific studies and data collection reports with the review of patient's profiles.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:
Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
Performs all tasks according to White Plains Hospital (WPH) and the Pharmacy Department's policy and procedure.
A pharmacy intern may, as determined by the commissioner's regulations, practice as a pharmacist under the immediate personal supervision of a licensed pharmacist. NYSED Article 137 -6806
Compliance with all elements of the Pharmacist, Pharmacy Assistant and Pharmacy Transporter training tool and job descriptions.
Integrates customer service into work practice.
Answer telephone with courtesy and promptness.
Performs work to maintain regulatory compliance of the pharmacy department.
Abides by current hospital requirements for infection control.
Participates in Performance Improvement (PI) Initiatives.
Utilizes appropriate steps in the decision making process to include recognition and priority setting related to pharmacy work flow issues.
Cooperative and professional through response to change, assistance to peers and effective communication

among the health care team.

Successfully completes WPH and Pharmacy department's competency requirements.
Attends mandatory in-services.
Attends staff meetings as required/ requested.
Utilizes cost containment practices.
Adheres to all WPH policies and procedures including dress code, code of conduct, customer service, attendance and submission of annual physical.
Flexible in staffing and adjustment to assignments
Performs all other related duties as assigned

Education & Experience Requirements

High School Diploma required

Enrolled or Graduated from an accredited school of Pharmacy Current New York State Limited Pharmacy Intern Permit

In accordance with NYS ED Article 137 -6806 a limited permit for employment as a "pharmacy intern" can be registered to:

A student enrolled in the last two years of a registered program in pharmacy, or
A graduate of a program in pharmacy which meets standards established by the commissioner's regulations who is engaged in meeting the experience requirements or whose application for initial licensure is pending with the department.

Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment

May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access).

Must be physically able to move, remove and transport heavy objects more than 30 lbs

Position requires ability to ambulatory, sit/stand for extended periods of time, perform difficult manipulative arm-hand steadiness and hand-eye coordination skills. Must be physically able to meet all regulatory requirements

Must have the ability to concentrate for extended periods of time and with distractions Must maintain respectful and professional environment.

Individual must be able to understand theories behind several related concepts and remember multiple tasks given during the course of a day.

Must be physically able to meet all regulatory requirements.

Sees objects closely and far away and hears normal sounds with some background noises.

Tasks that involve exposure to chemotherapeutic agents. Requires the knowledge and use of Universal Precaution techniques.

Salary Range: $55,905.92 - $83,869.89 (Based on full-time equivalent)

Location: White Plains Hospital - Pharmacy
Schedule: Per Diem, Varied, Varied shifts 8a-4p/4p-12a/ 11p-7a. Rotating weekends and holidays
